New Asbestos and Limit values
In the last bulletin from the Federal Commission for the coordination of safety at work (Commission fédérale de coordination pour la sécurité au travail (CFST)), Number 67 of June 2009, some very important subjects were addressed for businesses in terms of risk management :
Asbestos
Directive 6503 has been revised for the first time in 20 years. Its range has been significantly broadened. It will now be applicable to “all fields of work where the workers can be exposed to asbestos fibers” (Egon Hürlimann, "Nouvelles règles relatives à l'amiante sur le lieu de travail – New rules concerning asbestos in the workplace", Communications CFST 67, 2009, p. 8). Many trades are affected by this new version of the directive..

Exposure limit values in the workplace
The limit values have been updated and the article from EKAS explains the principal differences and amendments. Some of the values have been incorporated for the first time, for example the load port and the substances responsible for sensitization. Some rates have been amended, notably the limit values of exposure rates for pregnant women and a redefinition of the tolerable biological limit.
