Safety at work
Reorganisation of the Inspection fédérale du travail (IFT) (Federal Labour Inspectorate).
Under the auspices of the Direction du travail (Labour Directorate), which reports to the Secrétariat d’Etat à l’économie (SECO) (State Secretariat for Economic Affairs), the Inspection fédérale du travail is to undergo major restructuring, with a view to boosting its resources for protecting people at work.
In its new form, the IFT will bring together all the essential tasks of monitoring, coordination and support for the operational bodies at canton level.
A new organisational chart comes into force on 1 July 2010, and the entire organisation will be managed from Bern. Currently based in Lausanne and Zurich, the IFT will also incorporate the various different areas of the Centre de prestations Condition de travail*, all of which will be transferred to Bern by 2013.
More information will be released as implementation progresses.
With a view to improving effectiveness and transparency of the organisation, the new IFT structure will be subdivided into three groups, each of which will focus on a single priority:
- customer relations (information, advice, follow-up, intervention, outside partners and contacts),
- coordination (directives, application issues, documentation, tools, etc.),
- monitoring (steering, priority initiatives, audits, branch solutions).
The success of this operation will depend greatly on the readiness and commitment of all the players involved.
* Work and health, protection of employees, cross-sector projects and activities, chemicals and health, product safety.
